March was bast…minus my Spartans missing out on another final 4. 🙁 I set a goal to read to 30 classrooms and by the end of the month, I logged in a whopping 78 classes! I was able to introduce 2067 students to The Tale of the Disappearing Tail and the response was overwhelming. I loved chatting with the kids about how and why I created the story. They had so many great questions and comments, too many to count. I did, however, create a list of my top 5 favorite questions and answers to share with you here. (it should be noted that the following questions were from the toughest critics, the 4-5 year olds)
Question 1. Are you a grandma? Answer: No, I am not.
Question 2. Are you famous? Answer: No, I am not.
Question 3. Did you use a feather and ink to write the story? Answer: No, I did not. Just a plain old Ticonderoga pencil and college ruled notebook paper.
Question 4. Are you rich? Answer: No, I am not.
Question 5. How old are you? Answer: In 2 weeks I’ll be 3 years less than 60. (my cryptic answer didn’t phase them in the least, “57!” was shouted out and ultimately led to follow up cheers of, “my grandma is 57!”)
Spending time with the students was the highlight of this entire process, so far. They were all so interested and encouraging, asking for another book about what happens next to Ted. And now that I’ve recovered from my busy March, I think I just might have to book a couple more classes before the end of the school year!
Currently, Im in the process of finding summer events to promote the book. The Old Town Saginaw Art Fair is happening June 6 and 7 and I’ll be there. If you already have a book and want it signed, please come find me! And keep checking back for more updates. I hope to see you soon! xo
